    Do I need a website?

    Yes. You do.

Welcome to the 21st century where the Yellow Pages is dead and everyone from the ages of 5 to 85 has a smart phone. According to the Hootsuite Digital 2018 report, nearly 90% of Australians are now accessing the internet on a daily basis. On average, we Australians are spending nearly 6 hours per day (5 hours and 51 minutes to be exact) tweeting, posting, shopping, watching, and browsing online content per day. That’s a whooping 80% more than the amount of time we spend watching TV.

Now 6 hours may not seem like a lot but let’s compare that to some of the other things we love to do.

How many minutes we spend each day...

    0
    Commuting to work
    0
    watching The Castle
    0
    watching the footy
    0
    cooking and eating meals
    0
    using the internet
    0
    sleeping

    Still not convinced?
Well what are you doing right now?

You’re on the internet, more importantly, you’re on a website, our website. That’s right, you’re on The Ad Group’s website reading about the benefits of having a website of your own.

    Ironic, maybe. Coincidence? No.

When we built this website, we designed it so that you would find it and engage with it. Why you ask? Because that’s what a website is meant to do. They are designed to help potential clients (such as yourself) find a business or company that produces a service that you require and provide adequate information on how they do it. In this case, you, the business owner is wanting to make more sales by increasing the brand awareness of your company and reach. You might think that a radio campaign might do the trick, or even printing some brochures would help. But where do your potential customers go once they’ve heard or seen your advertisement? Most people would hope they’d go straight to their shop and start spending money but that’s not always the case.

The average Australian consumer (ourselves included) will hear about your business via some kind of promotional material and then ‘Google it’ because we want to learn more. That’s right, your amazing radio ad or perfectly designed flyer has now crossed the path of us, the potential customer and we want to view your website.

"Buy why our website? Our advertising told you where we are, how to contact us, and how awesome we are!"

Answer: because we are forgetful and or lazy.

    1. A well scripted 30 second Radio ad on the local station.

Firstly, a typical radio ad has just enough time to effectively tell everyone who is listening the who, what, when, where, why, and how of your business and services. That is a lot of information to convey in a very short amount of time and also one of the most effective ways to gain brand awareness and reach new customers.

While Australians love listening to the radio, they are doing exactly that, listening. Many people who listen to the radio on a regular basis are usually multitasking. This means that while they will listen to the radio ad, they may not remember every single detail. If a customer’s concentration is split between writing an email or keeping their eyes on the road, they might only be able to remember key facts of your ad such as who you are, what you do, and what part of town your in. As a result, people who hear your ad will need to visit your website to fill in the blanks.

Secondly, not everyone keeps a pen and paper at arm’s reach 24/7. But what they do have is a smart phone. With the exception of those driving, most people will use their phone to keep notes and reminders about things they hear or see. The most common app for this isn’t a digital note pad or sticky note, no, it’s good old Mr. Google. Nothing beats having to write down phone numbers and addresses when someone else can give you everything from opening hours to GPS directions to the business in less than half the time. Why work when someone has already done it for you? Without a website, your customers (who are used to being spoon feed information) might actually do business with someone else because your radio ad told them that they need a product that they now want.

    2. Printed flyers

Printed promotional items such as flyers are fantastic for handing out to people in order to generate more business. But they have two key limitations that only a website can make up for. The 1st is that the amount of information printed is physically limited to the size of the flyer. Sure, you could make everything really small in order to fit everything in but it would be unrealistic to expect people to try and read something that small. 2nd, they can easily be lost or left behind on the kitchen bench as you’ve rushed out the door for work. A website on the other hand doesn’t have these limitations. Your website is only limited by how much information you can provide.

    Conclusion

Your website is an extension of both your business and your advertising. It is the 1st point of reference for customers wanting to find out more and the last step they take before doing business. This is why you need a website with relevant information, that is kept up to date, fast, and mobile friendly.

But I already have a website. How do I know if it’s good enough?

Most small and large business already have websites but not all websites are created equally. The easiest way to gauge your website is to check that it meets the following requirements:

    RELEVANT CONTENT

When it comes to being found on the internet, Google is king. This powerful search engine is powered by one of the most advanced AI algorithms ever invented. Not only does Google read your website, it can identify how relevant it is to users. Google’s number 1 priority is to provide its users with the most relevant information possible. So, if your website is about plumbing, make sure that every page is about plumbing. Don’t have pages that aren’t directly relevant to all users viewing your website.
