What is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) refers to how well a website ranks compared to other websites when appearing in search engine results. Websites with high SEO have been designed to be easily found and indexed by search engines like Google and Bing. As a result, these websites have a better chance of appearing at the top of search results, leading to more traffic and user interaction.

Optimising a website for search engines is essential, as it helps the website avoid being penalised and ensures that it can be easily found by users. A website with good SEO has clear page titles and headings, relevant text on all pages, and is easy to navigate. It is also coded to meet the key criteria set out by search engines.

Why does SEO matter?

Let's make this really simple, Search Engine Websites such as Google and Bing inadvertently control what online content is shown to a user. Their sole purpose is to provide users with a list of websites containing the most relevant, up-to-date, and authentic content possible. And truth be told, they do it better than anyone else. So much so, that the average person puts more trust in the legitimacy of their search results than that of any other source of information. Even if the average person hears something on the TV or Radio, they will still do a web search to authenticate what's been said.

In a nutshell, search engines hold all the cards and set the rules when it comes to been found online. Therefore, your website needs to play by their rules in order to be successfully found in search results.

"But I'm a rebel, I don't play by no rules."

Well, then you're either a moody teenager going through the millennial equivalent of a 90's emo phase OR an idiot. I'll give you a moment to let that sink in.
